## Key Details
- **Category:** Root Vegetables
- **Price:** $3.12
- **Variety Type:** Open-pollinated

## Growing Instructions

### Sowing
Prepare soil 3 weeks before last spring frost or when soil temps reach ~45°F. Keep soil above seeds from hardening. Sow 1/4" deep, 1-2" apart. Companion: aromatic herbs or onions to repel carrot flies.

### Germination
10-20 days at 50-85°F

### Care
Thin to 2-4" apart when seedlings reach 2-3". Do not allow soil to dry out. When tops show, cover with mulch to keep tender.

### Harvest
65-75 days. Pull when roots are 1/2-1 inch in diameter.

## Soil & Conditions
- **pH:** 6.0-6.8, loose sandy loam ideal. Avoid heavy clay.

## Seed Storage
- **Viability:** 3-4 years stored cool/dry. Store below 40°F, 25-30% humidity.
- **Pre-treatment:** None required. Scarify if seeds older than 2 years (light sanding or soak 24h).

## Yield
- **Per Plant:** 0.5-1 lb per plant
- **Harvest Season:** Early fall
- **Note:** Harvest at 2-3" diameter, sweet and crunchy
Biennial — save seeds from bolting plants year 2. Isolate ⅛ mile from other carrot varieties or bag flower heads. Harvest when seed heads brown and seeds turn dark brown.

## Pest & Disease
Carrot root fly (interplant with onions/rosemary), foliage fleck (downy mildew), slimy root rot (improve drainage). Rotate every 3 years.

## Harvest & Preservation
Pull when ½-1" diameter. Store in damp sand in root cellar at 32-40°F for months. Blanch and freeze. Dry-grate for dehydration.
