<h1>💧 The Big Absorbency Test</h1>
<h2>Week 5 &bull; Wednesday &bull; Hands-On Water Absorption Tests</h2>

<h3>📖 Reading Time</h3>
<div class="reading-box">
<p>Today you are a materials scientist! Scientists rank materials to compare them. To rank means to put things in order. You can rank from most to least.</p>
<p>You will test five materials with water. You will test cotton, paper, plastic, wood, and metal. First you will predict. A prediction is a smart guess about what will happen.</p>
<p>Then you will test each material the same way. Testing the same way makes your test fair. A fair test helps scientists trust their results. At the end, you will rank the materials from most absorbent to least absorbent.</p>
</div>

<h3>✏️ Quick Questions</h3>
<p>1. What does it mean to rank materials?</p>
<div class="answer-line"></div>
<p>2. What is a prediction?</p>
<div class="answer-line"></div>
<p>3. Why should you test each material the same way?</p>
<div class="answer-lines-triple">
<div class="line-row"></div>
<div class="line-row"></div>
</div>

<h3>⚠️ Safety</h3>
<div class="safety-box">
<p>Ask a grown-up to help. Do the test near a sink or on a tray. Wipe up spills right away so no one slips. Never taste the test water.</p>
</div>

<h3>🔬 Experiment: Test Five Materials</h3>
<div class="activity-box">
<p style="margin-bottom:3px;"><strong>You need:</strong> a cotton ball, a paper square, a plastic lid, a wood block or craft stick, a metal spoon, water, a dropper or small spoon.</p>
<p>Put five drops of water on each material. Wait ten seconds. Look closely. Did the water soak in or sit on top? Record what you see on page two.</p>
</div>
</div>

<h3>📊 Prediction and Observation Chart</h3>
<p style="font-size:10.5px; color:#555;">Before testing, circle your prediction. After testing, write what happened.</p>
<table>
<tr><th>Material</th><th>My prediction</th><th>What I observed</th></tr>
<tr><td>Cotton</td><td>soaks up &nbsp; / &nbsp; stays on top</td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>Paper</td><td>soaks up &nbsp; / &nbsp; stays on top</td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>Plastic</td><td>soaks up &nbsp; / &nbsp; stays on top</td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>Wood</td><td>soaks up &nbsp; / &nbsp; stays on top</td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>Metal</td><td>soaks up &nbsp; / &nbsp; stays on top</td><td></td></tr>
</table>

<h3>📊 Absorbency Ranking Chart</h3>
<p style="font-size:10.5px; color:#555;">Rank your materials. Number 1 soaked up the most water.</p>
<table>
<tr><th>Rank</th><th>Material</th><th>How do you know?</th></tr>
<tr><td>1 (most absorbent)</td><td></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>2</td><td></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>3</td><td></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>4</td><td></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>5 (least absorbent)</td><td></td><td></td></tr>
</table>

<h3>🎨 Drawing: Water Drop Close-Up</h3>
<p style="font-size:10.5px; color:#555;">Draw the water drop on plastic. Then draw the water soaking into cotton.</p>

<h3>✏️ Write About Your Test</h3>
<p>1. Which material was the most absorbent? How could you tell?</p>
<div class="answer-lines-triple">
<div class="line-row"></div>

<div class="line-row"></div>

<p>2. Did any result surprise you? Why?</p>

<h3>🧠 Design Challenge: Super Spill Cleaner</h3>
<div class="activity-box">
<p>Pretend you must invent the best spill cleaner ever. Which materials would you use? Draw your invention and label the materials.</p>
</div>
<div class="draw-box" style="height:110px;"></div>
<p>My spill cleaner uses these materials:</p>

<h3>📓 Science Journal</h3>
<div class="activity-box">
<p>In your journal, write today's date. Write one sentence about your most absorbent material. Draw a small picture of your test.</p>
</div>

<h3>🏠 Home Activity</h3>
<div class="activity-box">
<p>At dinner, look at the table. Find one absorbent material and one waterproof material. Tell your family how you know.</p>
