🗽 Freedoms and Symbols

Week 32 • Tuesday • What Makes America, America

📖 Reading Time

America has special symbols that stand for its story. The flag's fifty stars stand for the fifty states, and its thirteen stripes stand for the first thirteen colonies — the ones you learned about! The bald eagle stands for strength and freedom. The Statue of Liberty welcomes people to a land of liberty.

America also has special freedoms that came from its history. People can speak their minds, pray as they choose, and vote for their leaders. The colonists, the founders, and Lincoln all fought to win and protect these freedoms.

When you see a flag waving or say the Pledge of Allegiance, you are touching hundreds of years of history!
