Winter Review: Plants and Ecosystems

Week 20 • Monday • Life Science

📖 Reading Time

This winter we became life scientists! We learned so much about living things. Let's remember it all.

First we studied plants. Plants need sunlight, water, air, and soil to grow. A plant has roots, a stem, leaves, and flowers. Roots drink water from the soil. The stem carries water up. Leaves catch sunlight to make food. Flowers make seeds for new plants.

Then we learned about ecosystems. An ecosystem is a habitat plus all its living and non-living parts. Plants are producers. Animals are consumers. Everything in an ecosystem depends on everything else. Remember your terrarium? It is a tiny ecosystem in a jar!

✏️ Review Questions

1. What four things do plants need to grow?

2. Which plant part drinks water from the soil?

3. Which plant part makes food from sunlight?

4. What are the two kinds of parts in an ecosystem?
