🎉 Honoring and Celebrating

Week 22 • Thursday • How You Can Keep the Story Alive

📖 Reading Time

How do we honor Native American history and peoples today? There are many ways!

Every November, the United States celebrates Native American Heritage Month. Many places also celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day in October. Museums like the National Museum of the American Indian share art, stories, and treasures. Powwows welcome visitors to watch dancing, hear drumming, and taste delicious foods like frybread.

But YOU can honor Native peoples every day: learn whose land you live on, read books by Native authors, listen to Native storytellers and musicians, and always speak about Native peoples in the present — because they are here, now, thriving.

✏️ Reading Questions

1. What is celebrated every November?

2. What can you see and hear at a powwow?
